Honoring Geneva Military Veterans

6/21/2025

Military service is something that should be respected and honored and the Town of Geneva is committed to supporting our veteran community.  Geneva Clerk-Treasurer Tina Booth, on behalf of the Town of Geneva, is initiating a project to honor local veterans by displaying military banners in downtown Geneva.  Funding is currently being pursued in the form of grants and donations, to purchase 25 banners and brackets, in order for there to be zero cost to the veterans, their families and the Town of Geneva.

Banners will be displayed annually, on Line and Decatur Streets, beginning in 2026, from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, then stored over the winter by the town.

There will be an application process that will open once funding has been secured, possibly as soon as August 2025.  Once the date is confirmed, the town's website and social media page will be updated, and a notice will be placed in the Berne Witness.  If more than 25 applications are received, those additional veterans will be placed on a waiting list while additional funding is obtained.

In order to qualify, veterans must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Born and/or raised in Geneva; or
  • Resided the majority of his/her adult life in Geneva; or
  • Graduated Geneva High School.

Veterans that will be honored can be living or deceased and must have been honorably discharged from the military.

Please follow our Facebook page, and check the Town of Geneva website, for updates regarding this project.
